Calligraphy
One of the skills taught to every child in China when I was growing up, was the art of classic calligraphy. This art form has always fascinated me. After I arrived in the United States, there were no opportunities to continue this pursuit. Not until our trips to Japan in 2008 & 2009, was I able to rekindle my interest in this practice. What looks simple is actually not. It involves discipline in composition, ink and line quality expressing the potency of intentions and hidden energies. The making of The Five Elements has afforded me impetus to further develop my own style where I integrate western and eastern elements in a flowing manner without distracting from the intent of the poem.
Although its scent still lingers on
the form of a flower has scattered away For whom will the glory of this world remain unchanged? Arriving today at the yonder side of the deep mountains of evanescent existence We shall never allow ourselves to drift away intoxicated, in the world of shallow dreams. |
